COGBOOKS ADAPTIVE LEARNING TECHNOLOGY

We shape learning to individuals.

All students will come into learning new subjects with varying degrees of foundational understanding or preparedness. Considering the costs associated with obtaining a college degree, providing every motivated learner with an equal opportunity to succeed has never been more important. Therefore, rather than deliver a “one-size-fits-all” approach to all learners, our adaptive learning technology maps course instruction uniquely to each learner, taking into account what they know and what they don’t know, and dynamically delivering the most effective path forward.

As a result, students are more engaged in their learning, less likely to fail and more likely to continue their pursuit of a college degree.

CogBooks technology adapts to each student in four different ways. We consider these the four “A’s” of adaptivity.

Algorithms

Our underlying recommendation engine intelligently learns about each student as they interact with the course. The system uses this knowledge to continuously adapt the student’s path through the content, ensuring a journey which best suits their individual needs.

Assessment

Formative assessments and other interactive activities are woven throughout the course material. These individually assess each student’s understanding of the topics covered in real time and influence where they go next. Those with a good grasp of the concept move closer to completion while others are helped to build their understanding.

Assignments

Many subjects – like history – are taught around an obvious linear path, and adapting the order of topics would hinder students’ learning. So CogBooks lets instructors set a clear sequence through a course, but layer vast amounts of supporting and remediation content around each stage. How much of this content each student is served depends on their understanding of the main topics.

Agency

Research shows that students benefit from having a say in their learning. CogBooks incorporates student agency into the platform with simple tools which help students self assess their understanding of each concept. And, if they want to dig deeper into a particular topic, they can choose to view supporting content that might not be their primary recommendation.
